About Us
Connecting North Canterbury Artists Since 1959
Rangiora Art Society has been a cornerstone of the local arts community for over 60 years. Founded in 1959, the Society brings together artists of all levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals, in a welcoming and supportive environment.
We host weekly indoor painting sessions every Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Skurr Centre, Rangiora A&P Showgrounds. These sessions offer a space for creativity, learning, and camaraderie among members.
Our vibrant calendar includes:
Weekly Art Sessions: bring your own projects that you are working on
Monthly Art Shows at Fools of Desire Café
Annual Spring Exhibition
Tutored Workshops across various media
Members are encouraged to develop their skills and share their passion for art in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or preparing for your next exhibition, Rangiora Art Society is here to support your artistic journey.

60+ Years of Art, Connection & Community
The Rangiora Art Society, originally known as the Rangiora Art Group, began with a few passionate painters gathering informally in the early 1900s. By 1959, the group reformed after WWII into a more structured collective, meeting regularly to paint, share ideas, and build a creative community that’s still thriving today.
Through the decades, members met in lounge rooms, art rooms, and under trees — painting en plein air across North Canterbury and hosting exhibitions in gardens, galleries, and even department stores. The Society’s early champions, like Agnes Koller and Barry Jones, helped shape a culture of learning, generosity, and joy that still defines us.
